This vintage amethyst Pairpoint Glass Cup Plate was commissioned by the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth. It features one of the few remaining village pumps on Cape Cod, located in Yarmouth Port at the corner of Route 6A and Summer Street. This wrought iron pump and stone watering trough date back to 1886, although the current pump may not be the original from that year. The wrought iron memorial accompanying the pump was erected in 1928. This would make a wonderful gift for anyone involved with the 2023 restoration project! Handcrafted on Cape Cod using time-honored techniques, these 3.5 inch cup plates have subtle variations that highlight the artisan's skill. Each cup plate is crafted using a mold created with a hammer and chisel, and then pressed with molten glass using an antique press. This manufacturing process results in cup plates that are similar yet possess their own distinctive characteristics. Look closely, and you'll find the artisan's initials and the Pairpoint trademark within the design. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these versatile art glass pieces can also serve a functional purpose in your home acting as catch-all coasters to organize small items or as ring dishes to keep your treasured jewelry safe.
