This is a leather bomber jacket from the beginning of World War II. The tag says:
JACKETS, WINTER, HEAVY
Bu AERO US NAVY
SPECIFICATION M 445
WILLIS AND GEIGER
CONTRACT NOS 87669 ,
SIZE 40 S.
The original production of the M-445 and M-445A jackets stopped by 1943 when the AN-J-4 was introduced as a replacement. This leather jacket was a high-altitude flight jacket used during the early part of World War II. It was eventually superseded by the M-445A.
The M-445 was the standard USN high-altitude jacket in the early war.
This jacket in particular is in pretty good shape for its age. The zipper is complete and works, both buttons are there and the cuffs are complete. However, you'll see that there are spots where the leather is scuffing off. The sheep skin on the inside is still soft and plush with minimal damage and minimal stains as pictured.
Please see pictures for details. I will mail it very carefully once you've won your bid.
Thanks so much for looking!
