This is a beautiful group with replacement medals. Mr. Rankin probably requested these later in life since his originals were lost or he never received them (happened all the time). WWII vets are still getting retro awarded medals to this day. SSG Rankin was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart among other campaign and theater awards. On his shirt it looks like he is wearing a Philippine Liberation ribbon and a Asiatic campaign ribbon. Mr. Rankin was wounded April 1945 by artillery shrapnel to the face. He was released from medical care two months later. His original dog tags are present. They made a typo on one of them putting a "s" instead of a "c". The other was stamped in a larger font I've never seen before. The crests represent the 158th RCT unfortunately one of them has busted pins. The picture was found on a site and is a copy. Three patches are included as well. One is a felt construction with a cheesecloth back. It has a few moth holes around the edges. The other two are a machine sewn construction. Probably removed from his uniforms.
