This hat has a wonderful natural form to it! It sits perfectly and has a nice high peak and a low crown when sitting on a flat surface or a mannequin head. According to the markings inside it was made by Bates Hatter of London and is known as the Bates service cap. There is a waterproof type material inside the crown, which appears to have another Bates logo underneath it. The bullion on the brim has a few loose strands, but is otherwise nice with a great patina! The hat badge is wonderful!
I’ve never owned one of these before, but was very excited to find it. Would love to be able to display it myself with a headset on top or something. I’m not actually familiar with RAF gear and uniforms, but I think this is a very desirable piece and rarely seen in the states!
The size is small. Maybe a 6.5 or something like a 54 in European sizes.
