Background: The 4th was the primary air arm of the Western Defense Command. Early in the War they flew antisubmarine patrols along both the West Coast and Gulf of Mexico in the American Theater Campaign. Later, due to the proximity to aircraft manufacturing plants, the 4th AAF trained up most P51 Mustang and P38 Lightening Pilots.
