Water Hyacinth, Scientific name: Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solm, This floating water plant while invasive and not to be released in the natural environment, is the best friend of small pond owners who's water quality lacks from adequate filtration. Each plant carries its own inflated leaves as ballast and the root are left to free float below the plant. These roots not only take up nutrient but provide surface area for biofiltration and add to the diversity of small aquatic animals that eat other helpful nuisances such as algae and excess bacteria. These plants are capable of rapid growth but are easily managed in a small pond or fountain by simply tossing the excess. They make good breeding mats for Koi eggs (if your Koi leave them alone that is - see picture) and they can be place in the pond when the fish begin spawning and some eggs will cling to them allow you to easily remove the plants and have the babies hatch elsewhere. Because they are minimally frost tolerant, many places in the US (except the southern states) simply treat them as an annual and replace them every year. The generally bloom summer and early fall. Because the greatest expense of these plants is simply the shipping (they must go priority mail only), we have made our best "one price" offer of 20 for $35. FYI - almost half of this sale covers shipping and fees. For your information we use a large flat rate box 12 x12 x 6 which is substantially larger than a medium flat rate box for 20 plants. Some other sellers are using a medium flat rate box 11 X 8 X 5 which means there plants are much smaller than ours or there stuffed in the box with a compactor things have to breathe ! We sell the whole plant not just the bulbs we do not bother counting the bulbs only whole plants . We also sell a hundred which we send in a 12x12x12 box priority mail . Other sellers send a hundred in a large flat rate box which is half the size of our 12x12x12 box again things have to breathe ! We also have larger quantities or just order more 100s or more 50s .

These plants are raised in a liner pond without fish solely for the purpose of resale. We are a licensed and inspected nursery and do our very best making sure our plant are healthy and vigorous. They are not collected from the wild and may vary in size depending on stage of growth and time of the year. We try to harvest medium sized plants and clean every one before shipping.
