In August of 1945, the Pacific Fleet was heavily involved in the aftermath of World War II, focusing on facilitating the surrender of Japanese forces and preparing for the occupation of Japan. While the formal surrender ceremony took place on September 2nd, the period following Japan's agreement to surrender on August 14th saw intense activity for the Pacific Fleet, including mine clearing, demobilization of Japanese forces, and the arrival of occupation forces.
