An invaluable tool to have for your air-cooled vw (and most watercooled too)!

 While many of the tools needed to work on VWs can be sourced at your local parts store - there are some specialized ones that they just don't carry. This is 17mm allen socket that is used for both the drain and fill plugs on your transmission (and the reduction boxes on early Buses). As a bonus, VW used the same drain and fill plugs on most watercooled models so this tool will not only work on your classic VW, it will probably work on your modern one too!
