Vintage/Antique "LARGE" Embossed PLUMB "Anchor Brand" Autograph Fayette R. Plumb Single Bit Axe Head
Up for sale is this NICE & RARE! (RARE, because it's the LARGER 4 pound size axe head, not your typical 3-1/2 pound size that is more common). Vintage/Antique PLUMB Anchor Brand Autograph (Au-To-Graf) Fayette R. Plumb Single Bit Axe Head. The toe of the bit (upper or top parts of the cutting edge) has been ground down like that on purpose, most likely because there was damage or chips in that top area of the bit from hitting or striking rocks & stones when chopping out tree roots from a dead tree stump etc. (I see this a lot in old used axe heads like this one is). Whatever the case maybe, this was not a factory grind at all. But that being said, who ever ground this axe head bit down did a GOOD job of it (see pics). The PLUMB Anchor Brand Autograph (Au-To-Graf) Fayette R. Plumb axes were the BEST and highest quality PLUMB axes made back in the day. The cutting edge has some minor chips, nicks on it (see pics). The poll end of the axe head has some hammer marks on it, but has NO mushrooming on the poll (see all pics). The embossed "Au-To-Graf ANCHOR BRAND Fayette R. Plumb President" logo is SUPER DEEP and CLEAR and one of the best embossings that I have ever found in all my years looking for old axes and hatchets (see all pics). There's no cracks, breaks or repairs on the axe head (see pics). There are some minor scratches, scrapes, dings and pitting on the axe head here and there (see all pics). And what looks like vise marks on the bottom of the axe head near the eye (see last pic). The axe head is 7-1/4" long. The bit is 4-3/4" wide. The eye of the axe head is 2-1/2" long. And the axe head weighs in at 3 pounds 15.2 oz. (nearly 4 pounds).
