Vintage Weather Forecaster 1940s Artifact Meteorological Guide Irving Krick
WOW! Almost no one would have the time or patience to use this weather forecasting guide today, expect maybe for you! This artifact is as close to steampunk meteorology as you can get in your backyard! Make an assessment of the breeze with the built-in compass and then look up at the clouds. With that information once you turn the knurled dials to line-up your location, time of year, with your estimate of the cloud cover you will be given a weather forecast guaranteed to be much superior to that of a barometer's (or holding your wet finger up in the air).
Made in the 1940's with state-of-the-art milled aluminum and absolutely fabulous photo-realistic paintings of 12 various cloud formations found in the North American Hemisphere between 23 & 66 degrees North. Original box, guide book, and wall hanger. Extremely well preserved in excellent vintage condition. 11" tall X 3" wide and double sided.
Supposedly the principles guiding this methodology as developed by professor Irving Krick (Cal Tech) were used by then General Eisenhower for "operational weather advice"in the European Theater! In peacetime Krick states that by dint of this tool "every man can be his own weatherman."
STEAMPUNK WEATHER STATION
WAR AND PEACE: LET'S DROP A BOMB AND THEN
LET'S TAKE OVER THE WORLD
Let's face it: the 30's came in with a whimper and went out (by way of the 40's) with quite a bang. And thus the Boomers were upon the Earth. The number of births in the US nearly doubled during this time and I am one of them who popped out at the very beginning of that Boom.
Naturally, this period is my collecting sweet spot and I want almost everything I see from those times!!! It doesn't matter if it is curated in a vintage shop's window or a crammed into a trashcan, I want it: everything leading into the Mid-Century is a Rosebud to me.
Interestingly, my relatives laughingly blamed Dr. Benjamin Spock and his 1942 "The Baby Book" for all that came next.... Little did they know that Spock would end up an active anti-war personality and that he was actually tried, convicted, and sentenced to federal prison for conspiracy issues! But, I digress....
