SoundScriber was a company that produced portable recording devices in the mid-20th century, before the widespread adoption of magnetic tape recorders. Their systems recorded sound onto soft plastic discs by embossing (rather than cutting) grooves onto the surface. These discs had a characteristic square center hole and came in different sizes, offering various recording times.
