ITEM: Well, this is quite something, isn't it? Large (10-1/2") pincushion in the shape of a shapely lady's leg with black stocking and gathered lace top suggesting a Parisian can-can dancer. Handmade, pretty obviously. These are usually described as "Victorian" (even dated to "mid-19th century"), but I think (based on both design and materials) that they date from more like the 1930s to 1950s, when Victorian revival was in fashion. It's a bit risqué for actual Victorians. (Also can-can wasn't popular until more like turn of the century.) Either way, it's pretty unusual and a wonderfully silly bit of decor for your sewing room.

CONDITION: Wear from use, including a little hole in the stocking and discoloration on the lace. See photos for details.
