Vintage Griffin Trapping Plane
In very good used condition.
Made by Griffin similar to those produced by Ashem Crafts.
Used to taper round spindles for stick chairs etc.
It is made in cast aluminium and has a pivoted lever which when gripped, raises a wooden vee block bringing the wood to be tapered in contact with the cutter. The trapping plane can only be used on round wood which is rotating. It traverses as the wood is rotating and is able to form tapers on wood from 1(3/4)" (45mm) down to (1/4)" (6mm) diameter.
Uses a spokeshave iron to shape the stick (works a bit like a giant pencil sharpener).

To get the best out of this tool may require further sharpening and or honing of the edge.
