Most vintage (pre-1957) cymbals, such as Zildjian, can't be mounted on most modern cymbal stands, due to them having a 7/16” centre hole – too small to fit modern stands unless you remove the protective cymbal sleeve and risk the cymbal 'grinding' against the steel shaft, which is almost guaranteed to cause both cracking and key holing. Many brands had 7/16" holes, including Turkish Constantinople-made Zildjian cymbals and many American brands. After 1957, other nations began to make cymbals, with standard, larger centre holes.

Drummers who play vintage cymbals therefore have three options – either they invest in vintage cymbal stands, which can be rickety, unstable and almost impossible to repair; replace their current with 6mm stands, which can be expensive; or drill out the centre of their vintage cymbals (!) to fit modern cymbal stands. This can be expensive if you don't have your own workshop and is almost as divisive as the issue of natural patina versus cleaning.
Another option is a $45 (plus shipping) steel and copper adaptor – per cymbal!
With this in mind, I have designed the Vintage Cymbal Adaptor (VCA) - a cost-effective 3D-printed solution to the problem. It screws onto a standard, modern M8-threaded cymbal stand and allows you to safely mount pre-1957 cymbals with 7/16” holes.
The VCA is designed to help prevent key holing and cracking. It can also be used as a cymbal stacker to add both vintage and modern cymbals, such as splashes, to your existing setup.
The VCA, weighing just 57 grams (approx. 2oz), is a lightweight and strong cymbal accessory and is precision 3D-printed incorporating carbon fibre micro-fibres. The adaptor ingeniously incorporates steel parts in any areas of likely stress or wear.
