Vintage Montblanc 14 – Mid-Century Elegance with a Hint of Danger

As I’ve said before: modern Montblancs just aren’t for me. Too polished, too commercial, too far removed from what made their name in the first place. But this pen? This one’s different. It’s the real deal—designed and built over 60 years ago, and it shows in the best way.

I’m a sucker for mid-century design, and of all the pens Montblanc made in that era, the Model 14 and its cousin the 252 stand out as personal favorites. This one is balanced, smooth, elegant, stylish, sophisticated… maybe even a little sinister. If I had to sum it up in three words? Bond villain pen—and I don’t mean the campy ones. I mean the icy, well-dressed kind from the Connery films.

The hooded nib on this pen is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful ever made. Sleek, understated, and brilliantly functional.

Writing & Performance:

As you’d expect from a vintage Montblanc, the writing experience is superb. The nib is smooth with a hint of flex—enough to reward a gentle hand with expressive line variation. Despite its length, the pen is exceptionally well balanced in the hand, capped or posted. Piston operates smoothly, ink window is clear, and all functions are in top working order.

Dimensions:

• Capped: 136mm

• Uncapped: 125mm

• Posted: 153mm

• Barrel diameter: 12mm

Condition Notes:

• Some light scratches around the piston knob, typical for its age.

• Two cosmetic scratches on the nib—these are purely visual and do not affect writing in any way.

If you appreciate thoughtful design and want a Montblanc that was actually made for writers, not boardrooms, this is it.
