This is beautiful just as something to set around even if you never intend to use it. It has a gorgeous patina. Imagine all the leaves that were actually made with this. This is a 3 piece that has the cutter. To use a cutter you'll need a heavy mallet. It's not like cutting out cookies! But I know they could cut out several layers of fabric at once.
This one looks like it makes an elongated heart shaped leaf.
The top part is made of cast iron and has a wood handle. The entire length including handle is 8 inches. The bottom is almost 3 inches by almost 2 inches with one inch deep of solid brass or bronze. The cutter is almost 5 1/2 inches tall. Set weighs about 4 pounds.
This is quite usable and you could actually cut and form a leaf today exactly how it was done years ago.
Cut the fabric of your choice (velvet or cotton). Heat the brass piece. Just placing it on a griddle or stove top and warming it a bit will do. Put some liquid starch on the cut out piece and place it between the top and bottom and press. If you have some way of clamping it tightly it will help. Remove and let dry.
Wonderful also just for display. This is a serious well-made tool set.
