A hard to find original Mother's Carnival Oats box featuring the 1950's colors of Carnival with the top lid of the box still attached. These “Carnival” patterned pieces were included inside the boxes of Mother’s Carnival Oats some time between the late 1930’s and then through the early 1950’s (with different colors). Can you wrap your mind around that breakfast ceramic ware was shipped and put into cardboard boxes with oats?
With the success of Homer Laughlin's Fiesta line and other solid colored dinnerware, Quaker Oats decided on brightly colored breakfast sets. In early November 1937, development began on a small line that would make use of Fiesta glazes. Two styles of cups, saucers, and 6"plates were modeled. At the end of January 1938, all five ringed pieces - teacup, saucer, 6" plate, fruit cup, and oatmeal (aka cereal bowl) bowl - were put into production and sold by Quaker Oats as "Carnival."
Carnival came in two color assortments. Glazes used in the 1930s were: dark blue (aka Cobalt), red (aka radioactive red), Fiesta yellow, light green, and ivory. In the 1950s the color assortment was: dark green (aka forest green), gray, Harlequin yellow, and turquoise.
Condition: Acceptable vintage preowned condition for this cardboard box that was meant to be discarded after use. Top of box still attached. Box has some significant wear, warping, chipping, and ripping in the outer cover.Bright colors on the box remain. Chipping to the box wrap and discoloration due to age.Decent condition Mother's Oats box for this harder to find 1950s version - good example piece to have to display! See all pictures.
