This 1947 Central
& Western United States road map was issued by the Standard Oil Company
(Esso). The map is not dated in the legend or copyrighted, but has a map date
code of “347” and the archival envelope it came in is dated 1947. This map is
in excellent original condition as shown in the photo and came from the General
Drafting Map Company archives. If there is a stamp or writing on the top of the
front cover, it was put there by the General Drafting Company since this map is
from their archival files.
I was fortunate to
locate and buy several boxes of archival maps from the General Drafting Map
Company after they were bought out by Langenscheidt and absorbed into the
American Map Company. There is a wide variety of maps types and all are like
new. Over the next few years, I will be offering many of these here on eBay.
