Vintage 1930s Kalamazoo KG-31 archtop acoustic guitar made by Gibson. This1930s KG-31 is all original except for the pickguard and the pickguard hardware. The old Kluson tuners work pretty well considering their age. The Brazilian rosewood bridge is set as low as it will go, but despite the low bridge height, the string action at the 12th fret is fast enough that the guitar is very comfortable to play all the way up the neck.

There are no top cracks or back cracks or repairs and the bound neck is solidly joined to the body. The sides are in good shape, however; there is one long scratch on the treble side that looks like a crack. There is no movement and I cannot see any light passing through, so I'm convinced it's just a surface finish imperfection. There are no loose braces, no rattles or buzzing sounds when you tap on the soundboard or the back. The neck is straight with no humps and no dead frets or fret string buzz.

Now for the bad news, at some point she experienced a hard impact to her 16" round bottom. It looks like someone dropped her hard on a floor stand and the two prongs dented the thin mahogany side plates on either side of the strap pin. This impact caused two shallow dents that show some splintering and some cave-in of the wood fibers. This damage is mostly cosmetic in nature and does not affect the structural integrity or playability of the guitar.

Originally, I bought this KG-31 thinking that I would do a neck reset and then repair the two dents, but I have too many other projects to work on right now, so I'm letting this one go. Otherwise, she tunes up to concert pitch, and plays well. This KG-31 has lots of vintage woody mojo tone, and if you can get past the 1930s vintage sharp V profile neck and all the dings, scratches and the two bottom dents, then this vintage Gibson made, Kalamazoo Archtop, would make a great addition to your vintage guitar collection.

A well-used and really beat up old chipboard case is included in this listing.
