History:-

The Evans Case Company of North Attleboro, MA was a major player in American compact manufacturing between 1920 and 1960 and a study of Evans cases over those forty years will provide a useful snapshot of the development and evolution of compacts, from the dual perspectives of design as well as decoration.

Evans’ origins were not dissimilar to one of its major competitors, the giant Scovill Manufacturing Company nor, indeed, to the Pilcher Manufacturing Company, maker of the attractive Vashé compact cases. All three started off manufacturing brass buttons but in the case of Evans its history can also be traced to the very first commercial button making business in America as well as the very start of jewellery manufacturing in Attleboro, MA.

To read more about the history of the Evans company a useful resource is the “collectingvintagecompacts” blog (which is where I sourced this information).
