This is an ol oil-varnished Vajrayogini Newari Pauva/Paubha Thangka painting. The Vajrayoginī is a Tantric female Buddha a meditational deity. Vajrayogini is a prominent deity in Tibetan Buddhism and Vajrayana Buddhism. Vajrayogini is often regarded as a principal figure in the yogini or dakini tradition, symbolizing the enlightened female principle.
Newari Paubha painting is a traditional style of scroll painting that
originated in the Newar community of Nepal. These intricate and colorful
paintings are typically used for religious and ritualistic purposes, depicting
various deities, scenes from Hindu and Buddhist mythology, and other cultural
and religious motifs.
Oil-varnished Thangkas are a variation of traditional Thangka paintings.
