General George Armstrong Custer was a connoisseur of fine handguns. A man totally dedicated to proving the military value of the revolver over the sword. And this was one of the prizes of his collection. It is a classic firearm. A .36 caliber cap and ball percussion revolver, engraved with magnificent scrollwork by a master of the art, fitted with relief-carved grips and finished with gold plating to bring out all its rich detail. It was given to Custer, not long after he became the youngest general of the Civil War, but we shall never know by whom. Because the presentation plate was removed when the gun left the Custer family collection.
