We are offering a typewritten note (2" x 5 1/4") - Signed by Norman Thomas, member of the Socialist Party. The note says "Thanking you for anything you may be able to do". Norman Thomas (1884-1968) ran as a Socialist for the U.S. Presidency several times, the last being in 1948 against Harry Truman. A pacifist who opposed U.S. participation in World War I, Thomas joined the Socialist Party in 1918, and was one of the founders of the American Civil Liberties Union. Thomas also authored several books. Thomas criticized the Democratic "New Deal" administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt, believing it focused on economic solutions during the Great Depression years, rather than addressing the underlying moral issues that had been the cause of the breakdown of economic security for the American working class. **NOTE - we don't know the date of this card, but if Thomas was asking for help with regards to his election campaign, it could be 1924 when he ran for New York Governor; or when he ran for president in 1932, 1936, 1940, 1944 and 1948** CONDITION: Excellent.
