While not satisfied with just being good, so through customer data and rigorous testing, our R&D team are able to blend over 40 years of manufacturing know-how and real-world feedback to improve the tool holder's design and performance.

Start to Finish

We optimize our process for both efficiency and accuracy by utilizing Kawasaki robotic arms to load and unload bar stock into the Mazak multi-tasking machine centers.  We use SCM420 alloy steel to lay the foundation and case harden to RC 57-59 with a core of RC 34-39 to provide good core strength and maximize wear life. The core creates a dampening effect which reduces vibration in high speed milling to improve surface finish. The AT3 or better taper accuracy ensures 80% or better taper contact with spindle and using Stotz Air/Electronic Gaging for inspection on the taper. We precision grind the internal bore surface to <.0002" TIR and all bores are ground on a CNC grinder to ensure close run-out tolerance and evenly contact between the collet and the bore pocket. We use Haimer laser balancing machines to deliver a tool that can operate flawlessly at 20000 RPM and Mitutoyo or Mahr indicators to check the run out.

Dynamic Balancing

Tool holder is balanced to G2.5 20,000 RPM on a HAIMER Tool Dynamic Balancing System from Germany.  Balanced tool holder minimizes the centrifugal forces which minimize the stress on spindle bearing, minimize vibration and maximize the cutting tool's life cycle and greatly improve surface finish.
Pre-Balance Design

Unique design feature in the extension nose to minimize the off-balance nature of CAT 40 taper specification.  On the side of flange where a half spherical hole is located, a flat is cut into the cylinder nose to compensate the weight of the metal chips lost from forming this spherical hole.  And when the holder is placed into the Haimer balance machine, less holes would need to be drilled in the v groove of the flange to protect the rigidity of the tool holder. Evenly weight distribution will minimize centrifugal force in high speed spinning and thus maximize the holder's ability to hold the cutting tool concentric to spindle rotation.
Coolant Port

2 Coolant ports on the nose of the tool holder direct coolants onto the cutting tool and workpiece to flush out chips and maintain optimal cutting tool performance. Coolant port can be sealed with the included stop screw to drive coolant to the center bore for coolant thru cutting tools. Stop screw needs to be completely threaded in to sit flush with the nose. Coolant port thread size is M4 x 0.70 with 5mm Length.

The workpiece is clamped in the Tegara 690X vise and machined in a Haas VF7 mill 40 taper.
