You can use Epoxy Remover to remove an old layer of coating from a steel petrol tank. First, remove all gasoline from your tank and rinse it with water. Then dry the tank and let it cool down if necessary.

Epoxy Remover attacks paint and tank gaskets. Therefore pack your tank in a plastic bag that you cover around the filling opening with tape. Tightly close the opening of the fuel tap. Make sure you also have a good seal for the filler opening of the tank.

Ensure good ventilation (outside air), gloves, protective clothing and safety goggles before opening the can of Epoxy Remover. Avoid breathing the vapour. Pour the Epoxy Remover into the tank and close the filler opening. Shake the tank gently for a few seconds so that the Epoxy Remover spreads throughout the tank. But then open the filling opening briefly to allow any excess pressure to escape. Think goggles and gloves.

Never place your tank filled with Epoxy Remover in direct sunlight, but in a cool and well-ventilated place. Let the Epoxy Remover sit in the tank for a day, after which you drain the remainder (outside!). The old epoxy coating in your tank comes out in small flakes. Rinse the tank with plenty of water. Before applying a new layer of coating, first clean the tank thoroughly with Tank Cure Cleaner and treat it with the Tank Cure Rust Remover.
