Adult Squash Vine Borer usually appear mid-June to mid-July in Northern U.S. One generation in the Northern states is possible; 2 generations in the Southern states. Hang traps at plant leaf level 10 to 25 feet from the plants on 1 to 4 sides of the garden or field.
We recommend the traps be used in addition to other good cultural practices such as burying the base of the plant and vines (in the case of pumpkins), destroying any eggs found attached to the undersides of plant leaves, wrapping the base of plants with foil or other barriers to the borer larvae, dusting or spraying especially the base of plants and along vines with insecticides such as SaferGro Biorepel® (organic) or Carbaryl 5% (Sevin).
