- Enhance your aquarium with Spider Wood, a naturally twisted and branched driftwood perfect for creating stunning underwater landscapes. Its intricate structure provides a natural aesthetic while also serving as shelter and climbing surfaces for fish, shrimp, and other aquatic creatures.
Preparation & Care:
- Boiling Recommended: Before adding to the aquarium, boil the wood for 30–60 minutes to eliminate potential pests and bacteria. This step also helps accelerate the sinking process and reduces excess tannins.
- Soaking Required: Spider Wood is buoyant when first introduced to water. We recommend soaking it for 1–2 weeks or until it becomes fully waterlogged and sinks. Alternatively, you can weigh it down with rocks or secure it in place until it becomes waterlogged.
- Possible Tannin Release: Like most natural woods, Spider Wood may release tannins into the water, slightly tinting it brown. This is harmless to fish and can even provide beneficial antibacterial properties. If you prefer clear water, pre-soak the wood and perform water changes as needed.
- Water Chemistry Impact: This wood may lower pH over time. If your livestock prefers a high-pH, hard water environment, please research before adding wood to your tank. If tannins cause discoloration, regular water changes or the use of Seachem Purigen can help maintain water clarity.
