Your bid is for SHORELINER, Volume 24,
Number 2, 1993, published by the New Haven Railroad Historical & Technical
Association, Inc. This high-quality publication measures 21.5 by 27.9 cm and
contains 40 pages with Editor-Publisher William G. Dulmaine, Jr. The cover
photo shows class engine FA-1 No.0400 shortly after repainting in the Alpert
era, in a J.W. Swanberg photo taken at Cedar Hill on 31 December 1961. The
inside front cover photo shows Standard No.2006 running along on fine track at
an unidentified date and location from the Swanberg collection. This photo is
worth 1,000 words, probably more from a BS artist like Alden. "Wire
Train" on 2 pages includes a large unidentified photo of GE Motor No.0112,
and a letter concerning Pine Tree State, an excursion flyer reproduction and
Uniform Caps for Engine Crews demonstrated in a fine photo. IN A MANNER TO
WHICH HE WAS ACCUSTOMED by Wayne Drummond concerned Patrick B. McGinnis and his
hi-rail Cadillac with the PBM license plate. All shown over 2 pages in 4 fine
PR photos. I own his B&M 1961 Operating Rule Book No.1, with his name
embossed on the cover in gold. Wonder who's got the Caddy now? NEW HAVEN'S
RUBBER TIRE FLEET by Wayne D. Drummond is a 10-page captioned photo story, with
the first 4 photos in color, followed by 17 more in B&W. Here you'll find
box trucks, utility vehicles, Trailiner vans, dump trucks, pickup trucks, and
even a 1930's auto carrier. Great stuff here for the modeler or antique vehicle
enthusiast. BAISLEY'S LAST RUN by C.A. Brown is a captioned photo on a single
page of a dolled-up I-2 No.1334. A RARE MATCHED McGINNIS LASHUP by J.W.
Swanberg is a single page introduction to the centerfold color photo of three
ALCO cab units in the new McGinnis scheme. Six decades after introduction, and
Herbert Matter's design logo is still polishing the former New Haven RR Company
rails. NEW HAVEN RDC is a 10-page staff article devoted to informing us about
the RDC's and where they ran when, and how scheduled for maximum service and
mileage. There are 14 representative photos included so you'll get the picture.
These WERE marvelous 90 MPH machines as my own transportation experiences in
New England will testify. SHORE LINE WRECK, DETOUR ROUTING by Brad Smith shows
and tells about a January 1964 wreck at Westerly, Rhode Island, and the
resulting detours. Plus, how the New Haven was set up for exactly such detours
with a schedule of what routes would be used when a certain route was blocked
and transfers were not in order. Amtrak take notice please! This fine piece
covers 8 pages and includes 4 photos in color, 5 B&W, a condensed detour
arrangement, and a map from a 1955 PTT so you can follow the logic. Sadly, this
type of wreck was an all too common occurrence in the 1960's as U.S. railroads
drastically reduced both track and rolling stock maintenance. The rear cover is
a fine color photo of a NH truck crane taken in Providence in 1967 by Gary
Westgate. This magazine is in unread, new-old-stock, as-published condition.
