This is a injection molded replacement for the plastic rack on Shopsmith main carriage. The OEM has the rack gear in two pieces which are riveted on. This non-OEM gear will replace the OEM gear however new holes will need to be drilled, only one hole is reused to properly position the rack. The increase in rivet attachments will reduce the amount of rack bowing and subsequent failure on load that the OEM rack displayed.
The rack sections snap together to assure the proper spacing. When the old rack rivets are drilled out. Use a sharpie and a straight edge to mark a line thru the old rivet locations. This line is then used when aligning and drilling the new rivet locations.
This gear is molded from 30% glass filled polypropylene plastic. The buyer will need to break the gear sections loose from the sprues.
