Important Information regarding power adopter and SECOND PHOTO.
1) This unit has two grounds. The House ground and the Signal ground as shown in second picture. The UNIT chassis is directly connected to house ground or the third prong typically found on outlets. Which means the ground from the outlets travels through the external power adopter uninterrupted reaches the unit frame. It is only then the Signal ground is connected through RC network as shown in the second photo. This is important function to avoid sporadic noise interference during low capacitance (pF) test. The Original inductive power supply (no longer available) has a 17V DC range. I have modified the plug and the socket to a four-pin version that is unidirectional plug. It is an exact duplicate of the original power connection (3 pins in use) and has been used as such for sometime. It conforms to the design as illustrated in PHOTO 2.
2) This unit auto shut OFF only works when used with 12V battery NOT when used with external power adopter through 3 PIN socket. Since I liked the unit to shut-OFF automatically on my bench, I also made an external DC power supply from a selected power block having EXACTLY 12 VDC with similar amperage or better. This power block plugs directly to the same place as the battery inside the compartment socket. The power adopter chosen once again conforms to PHOTO 2 for its grounding technique externally built in the block itself.
3) These units are very sensitive to test probe. Using a different type of test cable yields some variation in test outcome.
4) No manual included.
5) Unit comes with original one TEST cable, 2 power supplies. Screws are sealed with Japanese ThreeBond Blue stuff 1401B. Should not be broken during the first 30 days.
