Large unusual antique lithographic view of Le Bernica, a district of Saint-Paul, in the island of Reunion, ancient name Ile Bourbon, in the Indian ocean, by Antoine Louis Roussin (1819-1894).

The plate has been drawn and lithographed by Roussin.

The plate is dated 1847 April 9.


Roussin was in the Marine army. He has been affected in Bourbon island in 1842. He married a Creole and stayed in Bourbon island. He realised a lot of drawings and lithographs published in "Souvenirs de l'Ile Bourbon" and "Album de la Reunion", which are very famous. In 1855, he co-founded the Société des Sciences et des Arts de la Réunion.

The name of the island changed from Bourbon to Reunion after the French revolution in 1793, the name "Bourbon" was not accepted by the revolutionary.
