These are not your grandmother's scans. Every page has been hand-corrected to remove as many blemishes as possible. Color correction with a known color standard sheet was used to get the colors as close to the original as possible. Special care was taken with the half-tone images to make sure all the depth and range of the originals is preserved. Manuals are printed on 24 lb paper and comb-bound with clear plastic front cover and black plastic back sheet. No attempt has been made to duplicate the original binding of cover materials. Cover is high-quality print of scanned image of original cover, printed on 39 lb "light" card stock.

The F4U "Corsair" was one of the first folding-wing fighters designed specifically for carrier use. It quickly became clear that carriers needed to carry large quantity of aircraft. The innovation to make the wings fold up allowed this tight packing. The engineers thought this required lowering the wing attachment points which gives the Corsair a unique frontal view with the wings appearing to be bent upwards at the base. With the Pratt&Whitney R-2800 engine, the Corsair was quite fast and could carry quite a bit of armament. More than 12,000 were built by Chance Vought.
