Very interesting information about the company that I want to share.
Faber-Castell was founded in 1761 in Stein, Germany, by cabinetmaker Kaspar Faber as the Aw Faber company. In 1898, granddaughter and heiress Ottilia von Faber married Count Alexander zu Castel-Rudernhausen, and the couple became the founders of the Faber-Castel family. Seven years later, the company launched a new line of pencils called "Castell". In the following years, this line became a recognizable brand thanks to the green color of pencils (chosen in honor of the color of Alexander's military regiment), the logo depicting the castle and the motif of two knights used on packaging and in advertising.
In 1939, The Third Reich captured Stein Castle near Nuremberg, formerly owned by Count Roland von Faber-Castell, chairman of the seventh-generation Faber-Castell Pencil Company. The Nazis removed count Faber-Castel from his leadership position and reportedly used the castle's bell tower to intercept allied airstrikes. Count Roland von Faber-Castell was drafted into the German army, which led to a change in the leadership of Faber-Castell. At this time, the Nazi Party appointed the first general director who did not belong to the family. By 1942, the company was renamed Aw Faber-Castell.
