Vega, (made in Boston, Mass.), was at the forefront of electrifying archtop guitars with pickups and controls that did not require the guitar's top to be routed for a pickup, or drilled for control pot mounting.
The pickup was designed to be suspended from the fingerboard overhang via the small attached tube that also serves as a conduit for the shielded wiring.
The control housing was mounted onto a standard open-frame trapeze tailpiece, also keeping it up off of the vibrating surface of the guitar's top.
The pickup measures just under 8K-ohms (as shown), and is a single-coil type that shares some characteristics with a Gibson P-90, some Dearmond models with its lack of a "B" pole magnet for better string balance, and the low profile wide coil of a Fender Jazzmaster pickup.
The pickup cover is maroon or dark burgundy, and the light glue that originally held it in place has released. It stays in place okay, but I've elected to leave it un-glued in order to easily show the coil/magnet assembly.
The control housing is a darker shade of burgundy that appears black in subdued light.
It retains its original control pots/potentiometers and wax tone capacitor as shown in pics.
The original knobs are a cream with yellowing from age.
Note that the output connector is the original Amphenol style that pre-dates the common use of 1/4" phone jacks.
It's extremely rare for a complete Duo-Tron pickup assembly to come up for sale, so it presents a unique opportunity for anyone engaged in the restoration of an original Vega D-26, D-46, C-66, Odell-branded Vega archtop, etc.
