Monarda Essential Oil is steam distilled from wild crafted Monarda fistulosa (Bee Balm) flowers.  This plant is also referred to as Wild Bergamot, due to its similar fragrance and therapeutic activity, though Monarda Essential Oil is a very effective anti-microbial, where Bergamot is not.  The common name of Bee Balm comes from the fact that it is a favorite to the local bees.  Historically this plant has been used, by natives, to treat infectious conditions, especially of the skin, due to it's high level of Thymol. 

Therapeutic Use:  Monarda Essential Oil is a gentle, yet, powerful anti-infectious agent, especially viral, with the added benefit of being very calming, and helpful in situations of anxiety and nervous tension.  In Aromatherapy Monarda Essential Oil is utilized for it's gentle anti-infectious activity, similar to Thyme Linalool, making it an excellent choice for skin care where you need anti-infectious activity of a more gentle nature.  Like Bergamot the impact that it will offer your products is soothing, and calming.  A great choice for anti-anxiety and de-stress product lines.

Fragrance Impact:  Monarda Essential Oil is similar, in fragrance,  to Bergamot.  Its fragrance is sweet, and floral,  with very light fruity notes.  The scent is fabulous and helps to make any blend a little sweeter without being overbearing.  This is a good oil when you want a floral impact without a feminine impact.  Monarda Essential Oil blends beautifully with Sandalwood, and the other base notes, as well as the other floral notes, especially Neroli.
