Released in 1979, Sony's TC-K60 boasted cutting-edge features including a Brushless, Slotless, Linear (BSL) Motor, Automatic Music Search (AMS) and dual LCD VU Meters! With many other top-end features and Dolby Noise Reduction, the TC-K60 is the perfect choice for the true audiophile!

The TC-K60 boasts two features that were considered very high-end during the time of production in the late 1978s, LCD meters and AMS (Automatic Music Sensor). It also has a BSL motor, programming abilities up to 9 selections, and F&F heads. The LCD meters are excellent, indicating the peak program meter level with clarity. It also has an AC outlet on the back so you can use this system to power another unit. To top it off, this deck is adorned with wooden side panels and a silver face that would look incredible as part of any audio system. Functions also include: Timer & Tape Counter, Individual Decibel Level Meters, separate Bias & Eq settings, Dolby NR, Zero Rewinding & Peak Hold, concentric Record Level Controls, Headphone Level Control and more.

The front panel has dual 1/4" Mic inputs and headphone jack while the rear panel has standard RCA input/output jacks with a second Variable output and an unswitched AC outlet.

The TC-K60 weighs just under 17 lbs. and measures a sizable 17" W x 12.8" D x 6.1" H

Condition:

This rare deck is in "Very Good" condition with minor signs of use and beautiful wood side panels! Aside from a few scuffs to the lid, the only other thing worth mentioning is a few front panel scuffs, some too faint to make out in the pics. There was a little chipping to the side panel's front, so it was was replaced with real-wood veneer and finished with a dark walnut stain. There is minimal scuffing to the plexis and all original knobs and buttons are present and complete as are the feet and attached AC Cord. The manual has gone missing, but no worries, it's available online or we will send you the PDF file directly on request. Two bonus NEW stereo RCA Audio Cables are included so you are ready to go! All comes in the pictured generic box with custom Styrofoam packing. Please examine all the pictures thoroughly for actual condition.

Service:

On inspection this deck was not working, so as with all vintage cassette decks it went to our tech for service.

In addition to the servicing below, the transport refurb included replacement of all rubber parts, including the idlers and pinch roller, with high quality PRB neoprene parts. This deck also has a common issue with the Play button not locking in, so the locking mechanism was also adjusted for consistent operation.

This Sony uses an LCD display with a fluorescent back-light that is notorious for failing. No sense replacing it with a similar lamp that will fail again, so our tech upgraded it to long-life LED's! Our tech tried several combinations of LED's and voltages to come up with the prefect combination of brightness and consistency, landing on three 2-segment Cool White LED's installed in the modified PC board. While the cassette well lamp was working it was very dim, so it too was upgraded to a Warm While LED that replicates the original incandescent nicely. It's this kind of thoughtful, preventative servicing that makes it smart to buy from a company with an experienced, in-house technician!

All decks receive a full restoration which includes the following services and much more, all performed by our qualified technician:

Unit is dismantled and inspected to determine if any attempted amateur repairs exist that need to be corrected, or substandard parts that need replacement

Heads are checked for flaws or excessive wear; highly worn heads indicates excessive wear to the entire transport so they are taken out of service

The exterior, all knobs & plexis are cleaned & detailed
All switches & pots are cleaned internally with Specialist Contact Cleaner (proven superior to DeoxIT by our customers)
Any faulty components, such as jacks, lamps, feet, etc., are replaced
Cassette transport mechanism is cleaned & lubed with non-petroleum based lube to assure long life
All belts replaced w/ high-quality neoprene belts
Pinch roller & idler tires are inspected and treated with Rubber Renue or replaced if questionable
All electrolytic caps are inspected for bulging or leakage
Knobs tightened & adjusted
Audio levels calibrated & balanced
Tape path is cleaned and heads demagnetized
Tape Speed calibrated

Testing:

Once serviced, we set this up on our test bench and it powered right up with no issues whatsoever. All features and displays work as expected with the deck running smoothly, producing clear, steady audio with no distortion. A short test track was recorded and played back with no issues. More testing was done, if there is a particular function you would like to know more about just let us know before buying. What a great find on a top-quality vintage cassette deck!
