Released in '85, SAE improved on their C101 with a unique cassette drawer and high-end features like 11-segment LED VU Meters, MSS Music Search System, advanced counter options and auto-sensing tape type for Normal, Chrome or Metal tapes! It retailed for $500, that's over $1,500 today!

The C102 is a full-logic, two Sendust head, 1-motor cassette deck with soft-touch tactile feedback switches for the tape transport, Dolby B and C, both auto and manual Bias settings for Normal (Type I), Chrome (Type II), FeCr (Type III) tapes and counter settings for either standard or time remaining with an additional setting for tape size! It also has a 120 uS PB EQ control for boosting high frequency when listening to Chrome or Metal tapes, a Record Mute switch and dual Record Level fader controls adjustments.

The rear panel has standard RCA input/output jacks and "Standby" jacks for integration with other SAE "02" products. The C102 weighs just over 15 lbs and measures 13-1/2" x 3.5" x 19" wide.

NOTE: This deck will be shipped with the Transit Screws installed, they MUST be removed before powering up.

Condition:

This rare deck is in "Very Good" condition with minor signs of use and a nice, clean front panel! Aside from a few scuffs to the lid, the only other thing worth mentioning is a few front panel scuffs, some too faint to make out in the pics. There is minimal scuffing to the plexis and all original knobs and buttons are present and complete as are the feet and attached AC Cord. The rack ears show no noticeable signs of previous mounting. The manual had gone missing so we are including the pictured copy. The transit screws, very important to protect the transport in shipping, had also gone missing. So we are including the brand new ones pictured, please make sure to remove them before powering up! We are also including two bonus NEW stereo RCA Audio Cables so you are ready to go! All comes in the pictured generic box with custom Styrofoam packing. Please examine all the pictures thoroughly for actual condition.

Service:

On inspection, this deck powered up but the drawer would not open, so as with all vintage cassette decks it went to our tech for service. In addition to the standard servicing below, the drawer belt was also replaced with a high-quality PBR neoprene belt and all the old lube was removed and new, non-petroleum lube applied!

All indicators are originally LED's, with the exception of the incandescent lamp in the cassette well. It was out, so it was replaced with a long-life Green LED to replicate the original incandescent with green filter. It's this kind of thoughtful, preventative servicing that makes it smart to buy from a company with an experienced, in-house technician!

All decks receive a full restoration which includes the following services and much more, all performed by our qualified technician:

Unit is dismantled and inspected to determine if any attempted amateur repairs exist that need to be corrected, or substandard parts that need replacement

Heads are checked for flaws or excessive wear; highly worn heads indicates excessive wear to the entire transport so they are taken out of service

The exterior, all knobs & plexis are cleaned & detailed
All switches & pots are cleaned internally with Specialist Contact Cleaner (proven superior to DeoxIT by our customers)
Any faulty components, such as jacks, lamps, feet, etc., are replaced
Cassette transport mechanism is cleaned & lubed with non-petroleum based lube to assure long life
All belts replaced w/ high-quality neoprene belts
Pinch roller & idler tires are inspected and treated with Rubber Renue or replaced if questionable
All electrolytic caps are inspected for bulging or leakage
Knobs tightened & adjusted
Audio levels calibrated & balanced
Tape path is cleaned and heads demagnetized
Tape Speed calibrated
NOTE: It is common for the tape speed to drift a bit as the servicing and new components installed in the transport settle in. Testing:

Once serviced, we set this up on our test bench and it powered right up with no issues whatsoever. All features and displays work as expected with the deck running smoothly, producing clear, steady audio with no distortion. The drawer operates smoothly with no issues. A short test track was recorded and played back with no issues. More testing was done, if there is a particular function you would like to know more about just let us know before buying. What a great find on a top-quality vintage cassette deck!
