Austrian-made Kohlert & Sons Bb Clarinet
a Pre-WWI beauty!
Bend
notes at will with this rare Kohlert Bb LP clarinet! Perfect for Klezmer or
other Eastern European-influenced music, this Albert System clarinet is ready
to make joyful noise! This model of Kohlert & Sons is one of the most
coveted, when Graslitz was part of Austria. This dates the instrument to
between 1896 and 1918, a period of time when many musicians regard Kohlert’s
quality to be finest.
The
clarinet is stamped on the bell with the Kohlert logo denoting its Austrian
origins and “Bb LP”. The lower and upper joints are both stamped “Bb LP”. The
barrel is unstamped, but it has some surface wear that likely has occluded this
marking – the silver hardware and woodgrain is the same as the joints and bell.
The clarinet comes with groovy Lucite mouthpiece (likely vintage).
Clarinet
comes in (likely) original leatherette case. It has a low serial number (3036)
stamped on the bell.
Condition:
This
clarinet is in EXCEPTIONAL condition, and is an excellent candidate for
restoration. All keys work and are in good shape. There are a couple of nicks
to the bell and a very minor hairline that runs to the maker’s mark. While it’s
probably a minor note, the ligature on the mouthpiece will need replaced. This
clarinet will need to be serviced, cleaned, and re-padded/re-corked, but it’s an
excellent candidate for this restoration and will sound amazing in your band, ensemble,
or studio!
