FEATURES꞉ This padlock has all the right features꞉ Brushed brass surface. Resists corrosion, filing, sawing and prying. Chamfered lock body. Hardened MN steel (manganese steel) with a Rockwell hardness exceeding 65 HRD. Weep hole in the bottom of the lock permits water drainage (reduces freezing shut in cold weather and corrosion in warm weather) as well as any future lubrication. Extremely difficult to duplicate dimple keys.
Because the keys can't be easily duplicated, this padlock is the perfect choice if you need to share access with neighbors, children, babysitters, maintenance people, janitors, condo associations, utility company employees, boyfriends / girlfriends, etc., (knowing they can't drive to the hardware store, have a duplicate key made and return at some future time).
HIGHER SECURITY KEYS: This lock's keys are what are known as “triple bitted.” A typical padlock employs a single bitted key, meaning the key's cuts are along one edge of the key. This lock's keys are triple bitted meaning the “cuts” are on the front, the back and along the edge of the key (see photographs). A typical padlock key has 5 or 6 pins. This lock employs 14-pins making this lock considerably more resistant to manipulation (i.e. picking).
LOCK'S DIMENSIONS꞉ The lock's body measures approximately 50mm (1.97") wide by 68mm (2.68") tall with a shackle diameter of 8.8mm (0.346"). The lock, five keys key ring and packaging weigh 13.2 ounces (374 grams) [yes, this lock weighs almost a full pound!]. These locks are KD (keyed differently). If you order two or more locks, the keys to the locks will most likely be different.
APPLICATIONS / USES꞉ This 50mm padlock is rugged. We chose to carry this particular high security lock because the keys are very difficult to duplicate (that's why you'll receive five keys). We know that periodically, keys must be "loaned" to employees, teenagers or maintenance people꞉ To enter a storage shed, access a gun rack, tool box, gate / garden area, mailbox, storage unit, self-storage unit, barn, electrical equipment, outbuildings, etc. Anytime you loan someone a key, it provides the individual with an opportunity to have a duplicate key made (and then return at a later time).
