Old 4/4 Violin For Repair. 360 mm back length. It has a label inside that says Antonio Saleri Made in Germany. Please judge from the photographs the quality and the condition of this instrument. The instrument is unrestored. The top does have a crack that was badly repaired on the center seam by the lower block. The upper part of the volute on the bass side is chipped. There is varnish damaged below the button and around the inlay with is recessed a bit. The body is in pretty good shape with no open seams that I can find. There is some varnish chipping on the scroll and the scroll does have bushings. The fingerboard is ebony and is pretty solid, there is a line by the heel of the neck and then one up by the nut that appears to be a check in the wood. Both of these cracks appear to be solid and I have probably been there for a while, but the fingerboard does have issues.
There are several areas on the top that have varnish damage and under the tail piece some rather deep gouging from the tailpiece. The edges have a lot of varnish missing and some deeper wear in spots. Over all the body is very healthy and could be used like it is minus one crack next to the saddle that is open. That's the only open crack I see on the instrument. It's on the left side of the saddle and about 70 mm long.
I've had this instrument for many years with the intention of restoring it, but unfortunately time is in less supply than old fiddles.
