How can a vessel owner be sure Iridium equipment satisfies regulatory requirements?

Iridium has obtained Recognition from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and a Letter of Compliance from IMO’s regulator, the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO). As always, vessel owners are ultimately responsible for working with their flag administration and Port State Authorities on all compliance questions.

Satellite Voice Capability 

Using Iridium’s global satellite network, the Extreme® allows you to make and receive phone calls anywhere in the world. The phone offers an integrated speakerphone and hands-free capability through a headset included as standard in our Extreme® phone kit.

SMS and Email Messaging 

The Iridium Extreme® is SMS and email enabled, allowing you to stay in touch and share experiences with others anywhere in the world. SMS and email messaging is limited to 160 characters and delivery/receipt is dependent on compatibility with local mobile network carriers.

Data Tethering

Although low-speed data is possible we only advise and support connections using the RedPort Optimizer in tandem with the XGate Satellite Phone Email & Data Services. Both of these tools enhance your data connection making the most of the speed available. Any connections attempted without these solutions may appear to work, and potentially use airtime, but may not provide the expected service.

SOS Emergency Button 

The Iridium Extreme®Satellite Phone has a programmable emergency button that activates critical, rapid response when you need it most. It is the only satellite phone currently available with emergency services supported by GEOS International Emergency Response Coordinating Center, included at no additional cost.

GPS Positioning 

The Iridium Extreme Sat Phone is equipped with Location Based Services (LBS) enabling GPS positioning. This allows you pinpoint and share your coordinates from anywhere on the globe.

Jet Water Resistant 

With a ruggedized IP65 rating, the highest of any satellite phone currently available, the Iridium Extreme Sat Phone is designed to withstand the harshest weather conditions. It is jet water resistant, shock resistant, dust proof and has a rugged antenna for unparalleled durability.

Online Tracking 

When used in conjunction with GTCTrack, GTC’s online advanced mapping portal, the Iridium Extreme® offers a variety of advanced tracking functions such as a breadcrumb trails of historic movements, live view (position of last message transmitted) and exact location of SOS and emergency requests. These tracking functions are available with an additional subscription.

GTCTrack Compatible 

Our online mapping portal can track your Iridium Extreme®Satellite Phone to provide real-time information via your GPS location. Any person provided with the login can become an operator to monitor any number of GSM or satellite assets simultaneously in-real time and historically on both the Basic and Professional plans.
