The period reflected in the
photographs presented here of the 20th century Michigan Central (NYC) spans 30
years, a company in various stages of transition from the 1940s through the
early Penn Central years.
The period spanned the administrations of Gustav Metzman, William White, Robert
Young, and Alfred Perlman, and each of these men was leading a company which
was in trouble, despite outward appearances.
Famed
photographer Emery Gulash takes the reader out on his home turf to photograph
the ever-changing scene on the New York Central Michigan Central trackage from
1940 right up to the 1968 Penn Central merger.
Emery Gulash was trackside in these
years to record in color these last decades of the Michigan Central.
Lots of passenger action pulled by both steam and diesel.
RDC's, Lightning Stripes, and some cigar band diesels fill out the pages.
Hardbound w/dust cover, 8.5x11, 128 pages,
250 color photographs with captions.
