This is a Buffalo NY Promotional Slogan Machine Cancel on an original envelope that was sent through the United States Post Office Mail. The original contents do not remain and I do not have them. This envelope is a collectible item of "postal history." The cancel on the envelope is a Barry Machine cancel that was applied by a canceling machine at the Buffalo NY Main Post Office. Cancels using this device before March 20, 1901, were applied at the Buffalo Post Office located in the Government Office Building at the northwest corner of Washington and Seneca. Cancels on or after March 20, 1901 were applied at the new post office at 121 Ellicott Street, which was dedicated that day. The New Post Office was built at a cost of $2,000,000--the main floor was for post office facilities and other floors housed Federal Courtrooms, the Customs House and other Government offices. A large sky-lighted court dominated the central portion of the four-story building. The cancel only appears with a "2." The cancel is known as a "Barry #47" or a "Przepiora/Tesmer #0-16" (from Postal history of Buffalo New York 1805-1905 by David Przepiora and Irving Tesmer, from which the information in the just-above paragraph was taken from). The cancel was used from February 14, 1901 to November 1901. Free Shipping - Not a reproduction. This is an original item. You will receive the exact item pictured. It is an original item and not a reproduction. It's completely authentic. I have been a member of the American Philatelic Society since 1978 and have been selling on eBay for almost 30 years. You will need to work through Sales Tax issues with eBay if for some reason you feel you should not be automatically charged sales tax. I cannot do anything about sales tax as eBay takes it and I never see it. Thank you for taking the time to view my items and make sure to review the other items in my eBay retail store, especially in this category. |
