Located just four miles north of Missoula, Montana, the
Rattlesnake National Recreation Area is popular and well traveled. However,
further north, the Rattlesnake Wilderness becomes a remote sub alpine territory
with pristine lakes and abundant wildlife. Elk, deer, coyotes, mountain lions,
big horn sheep, grizzly bears and bald eagles live here. Elevations range from
3,600 feet at the RNRA trail head, to 8,600 feet at McLeod Peak.
