Listing is for: 5 or more frags with a minimum of 5 species of marine Macro Algae

Note: When purchasing multiple pack the minimum of five species rule applies to the order as a whole. I’ll try to include additional species when possible but it isn’t a guarantee.

e.g. If two packs are ordered, but will receive 10+ frags with 5+ different species. If three packs are ordered buyer will receive 15+ frags with 5+ different species, and so on.

Frags of each species will vary and depend on the grow rate in an aquarium, and I'll always be sure to include at least a small amount of a unique/rarer macro. As a reference, if all things go well one variety pack should be able to start a 5 gallon nano tank or a small refugium.

When receiving macroalgae simply float the bag for about 10-20 minutes then attach the macros to their desired positions. I find ziptie-ing them to an inverted frag plug and then jamming/gluing them to the rockwork the is best way of attaching macros, because you can always cut and re-tie them without damaging them (unlike with superglue). If you want to dip your macros use an iodine based coral dip.

Most macroalgae are pretty adaptable, so long as you have them under a full spectrum white light and keep up with your regular water changes they'll do just fine!......

But let's face it, if you're anything like me you keep macroalgae because you despise water changes. If you only do irregular or (god forbid) no water changes, then I advise (that apart from salinity, Ca, Mg, KH) you keep an eye on your Iron, Potassium,  Iodine, Manganese, and trace element levels. You should also try not to bottom out your Nitrate and Phosphate levels for too long either (don't starve your macros).

Here's a run down of what I generally keep my parameters at

:Salinity: 1.023-1.025SG

  • Temperature: 68-76F**
  • Lighting: 100-300μmol/s/m2 @ 6,000-10,000K***
  • Nitrate: 5-20ppm
  • Phosphate: 0.05-0.1ppm
  • Potassium: 400-420ppm
  • Alkalinity: 9-12 dKH
  • Magnesium: 1400-1500ppm
  • Calcium: 450-500ppm
  • Iron: 0.5 -1 ppm
  • Iodine: ~0.05ppm

**Temperature shifts should be done gradually. For example during the winter my main tank reaches an average of 70F with 66F being the coldest point in the pump chamber. Then as the months go by and seasons progress it can reach around 77F during the summer. I wouldn't advise going over 78F as it will severely impact the growth of some species. I’ve found 74F to be the sweet spot for most macros. A rule of thumb is that too cool is better than too hot.

*** If you have access to the sun then by all means use it. It’s better than any light you can buy on the market, and it’s free!

In reality, you don't have to strictly adhere to my parameters.

No caulerpa will be included in this pack.

MONDAYS ARE SHIPPING DAYS. ORDERS PLACED AFTER MONDAY 9AM PDT WILL BE SHIPPED THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

DISCLAIMER:

Due to the small size of my operation, I can't guarantee live arrival. In any case I'll be sure to include a little bit extra with every order.

Please keep in mind the current weather in your area before ordering. I ship algae with insulation, but it can still be defeated by a hot mailbox or frozen porch eventually if left unattended.
