- Bottle embossed with a picture of an owl perched on a druggists' mortar, stirring a pestle. The mortar is embossed with, "TODCo / TRADE MARK". TODCo = The Owl Drug Co. The BIG BIRD embossed on this bottle measures almost 5 inches tall from the top of head to the base of the mortar!!!
- Condition: Bottle is in NICE CLEAN condition. The crude old glass has a sparkling clean orange peal texture to it, showing some traces of scratching/scuffs/scrapes = age wear. The worst is a very light vertical scuff visible to the left side of the owls face in picture # 3. It has NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. Many seller's would just describe this bottle as MINT- PLEASE see pictures for best idea of bottle's overall appearance.
- Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, dating from the late-1800s - early 1900 era.
- Shipping: FREE DOMESTIC shipping. We DO ship Internationally but we do NOT insure International orders unless winning buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance quote. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and send payment acknowledgments and shipping confirmations. Your prompt payment will assure a very quick turn-around time. IMPORTANT NOTE: If our shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is especially important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are rough estimates.
These bottles are referred to as whiskey top Owl Drug bottles because of just that, they have a whiskey top. About the only time these LARGE AMBER whiskey tops come up for sale is when a collection changes hands and are sold off, otherwise no one wants to part with them. That is he case with this example. It was originally dug up in in Utah and sold to a collector who specialized in rare Owl Drug and poison bottles. His circumstances changed and this one came up for sale, which is how we acquired, so here it is for sale. Most of these that you see have a large washed-out / smoothed-out / mold-worn embossed bird that lacks the details that make these birds so appealing. This one is the STRONGEST STRIKE we've ever seen, you can count every feather on him! You long time collector's know what I am talking about- These occur in five different sizes in clear glass, starting with the smallest 6 inch size and continuing up to 8 inches, then 10 1/4, 11, and up to 12 inches tall. There is also an 8 inch bottle in a beautiful deep emerald green color and this 12 inch (11 3/4") bottles that comes in an amber color. These exact large size bottles are pictured in an early day Owl Drug Mail Order catalog, with their paper labels on them for Black Swan Gin, French Brandy, Pacific Club Bourbon, Jockey Club Whiskey, French Brandy, Imported Sherry and Port Wine. Anyway, you won't see these large amber whiskey top owl bottles come up for sale too often. We've sold a few over the years, including one with a base chip that we sold on eBay in the 1990's to the highest bidder for over $700. That was the first one ever to be shown on eBay. This one is priced accordingly, check it out!
