Magnificent bold and graphic design on this fat lava glaze small handled vessel. The base color is a sandy beige. The hand painted abstract design is in blue and ochre accents with fat lace drip glaze. The interior is glazed blue-black. Manufactured by Lapid Pottery Works in Israel. The art director was Elisabeth Cohen-Silberschmidt, a German immigrant. The objects manufactured at Lapid were hand-painted, mostly by women, as piecework. In order to demonstrate how much money was due, larger items were usually signed on the base by the worker. In this case, the vase is signed “Lapid Israel Batia” Measures 4 inches tall, 2 inches at mouth, 3 5/8 inches at base. No chips or cracks.
