E.F. Johnson SAM II (2)

Mobile Telephone Test Set / System Activity Monitor

Specifications are from E.F. Johnson and may vary slightly due to upgrades, options, or revisions this unit may or may not have.

General Description:

The System Activity Monitor (SAM II) is designed to execute all test commands present in the Cellular Mobiletelephone Specification and certain enchancement commands in the Johnson 1154 mobiletelephone.

SAM II is ideally suited for bench work or testing since the keypad, display and indicators are all on the control unit. Most importantly, all CMOS components allow SAM II to be powered directly from the transceiver; thus, no additional power supplies are needed. For mobile testing, the SAM II Interface Unit is in the trunk or next to the transceiver while teh SAM II Command Unit is by the telephone control head. The existing control cable connects the units; thus, a mounted radio does not have to be removed for testing.

SAM II containts a 40 character LCD display used to show command names, data, and prompts. There are no command names or key sequences to memorize. Once the operator understands the general requirements for selecting and executing a few commands, the entire comman list will become easy to use.

All errors are displayed with a brief explanation. In many cases, prompts are displayed to inform the operator of the required action to be taken.

Most keystrokes can be stored, then recalled and executed by SAM II once or continuously and at selectalbe speeds. Also, all programs are saved when power is removed.
