This is a Japanese suzuribako (inkstone box) crafted in the distinguished Wajima-nuri (輪島塗) lacquer tradition by Sato Teiichi (佐藤貞一), a lacquer artist active from the Meiji to Showa era (1899–1972). The lid features an elegant makie design of ayame (菖蒲 / iris flowers), symbolizing purity, strength, and the arrival of summer in Japanese culture. The interior is finished with a shimmering nashiji (梨地) surface, enhancing the overall refinement of the piece. Produced during the Taisho to early Showa period, it comes with its original wooden box and a biography of the artist.
