This is a lovely cut glass "Glove Box" or "Jewel Box". Typically collectors call the larger rectangle caskets Glove boxes but companies also marketed them as Jewel boxes too in catalogs. This long shape is hard to find and very desirable to collectors.
Measures: roughly 4" wide on by 10-1/2" long. Opening inside is 9-1/4" long by 2-3/4" wide. Its 3-1/2" tall.
This is from the American Brilliant period (1870 to 1920's).
This was made by Pairpoint co. in the pattern called "Murillo" which is one of PP's Butterfly & Floral designs. This pattern is well documented- it features the 2 distinct flowers and butterfly on top. Adorned with a double thumbprint cutting around the lower section on the bottom that looks like a "savoy" style crosshatched thumbprint decor. Traditional Star cut bottom. Silver plated frame
Condition: It displays great. It is over 100 years old so its really nice for the age and typical condition these days. There may be some plating loss under the tarnish, I am not polishing this so you get the patina and can decide if you want to polish it or not... I see no chips or cracks. From age there will be minor scuffs and scratches on the bottom from sitting on surfaces. The plaster that holds the metal frame on the box is secure, and the hinged assembly is complete and the hinge works fine.
